Trash treated as trash…

You walk out of your house anytime of the day and you are greeted with the usual stench emanating from the trash bin round the corner of the road. It is a fact that every lane has its share of dustbins and overflowing ones at that. Just what are the corporation authorities doing about that?

Stray dogs, cows, crows and God knows how many more animals literally jump into these bins to look for any edible stuff. In the process, the area around the trash bins is littered with all the junk of the neighborhood.

It is a relief that scavengers help in a big way though that sounds quite insensitive to say so. These young delinquents and rag pickers rummage through the garbage bins and look for every object that could be used or better still, sold as scrap. And with the hope of coming upon anything that has a semblance of food! Their everyday adventures help in clearing up the bins to a considerable extent.

Health and hygiene are affected due to the pollution created by these rotting waste materials. The garbage clearing truck shows up more rarely than the Haley's comet. And what's funny is while the truck empties all the trashcans of the entire locality into it, it is filled like a can of sardines. And what do you get after that? While the trash filled truck is making its way back to the place of final disposal, most of it is spilt along the way thus leaving a trail of stinking trash!!!

So much for the effort! We wish the concerned authorities got responsible enough to do more than their present contribution of clearing the trash once in a blue moon. We want to live in a clean environment and in a city like Bangalore; we expect the minimum facilities, one of them being a stench free neighborhood!
