Just when things seemed to be getting exciting at the BMTC it was time to leave for poor old Mr. Jairaj. It seems that his cronies and counterparts were not happy with the way that he was handling affairs which means that he was probably doing a good job but not making a profit for them. By putting the power in the hands of the people to take charge of their own affairs he took it out of the hands of those who were so used to exploiting it for their own gain. They just couldn't handle it and sidled off to Chief Minister Krishna who must have acceded to their demands and transferred Jairaj to the KSRTC where he is expected to transform transport in this state.
Public reaction to this has been swift and scathing in criticism. We do happen to live in a democracy and it's interesting to note that most are not in favour of the transfer. Most people seem to think that the time was not ripe enough for him to move since he was doing such a good job. The BATF (Bangalore Agenda Task Force) had become a cohesive unit and things were finally moving in the right direction for the citizens of Bangalore. Now it's been thrown off track again and the engine driver is driving another train. We expect to hear a lot from him in this new post and are disappointed with Mr. Krishna for transferring him in the first place. Maybe he had his reasons but they are not clear to us. Next time we hope that important decisions like this are made with a rational and cool mind and are not a result of cow-towing to the demands of the back benchers whose sole motive is profit.
Tsk...tsk...Mr. Krishna, and may the force be with you Mr. Jairaj. All the best with the grand plans to overhaul Majestic and transform it into a truly metropolitan bus station. The future of transport is bright indeed.
