Bangalore was true to its other name, 'The Garden City'. However, over the last few years, we have seen a steady but sure disappearance of the greenery that once filled the place. Instead, all of a sudden, we seem to be surrounded by 'concrete jungle'.
It seemed as though someone went on a 'trees-plants-clearing binge' to strip the city of the entire lush and green that is so vital for the over-all beauty of the city. Do people know that the vast expanse of Cubbon Park has shrunk to a considerable extent. Now, it is a different picture altogether with the Kantheerava stadium occupying considerable space and the adjoining roads and buildings that have sprung up over the last two decades or so.
Well, change is inevitable for improving the infrastructure of our city but by no means is it justifiable to fell trees with reckless abandon and build tall structures of brick and mortar instead. To top it all, most buildings that appear out of 'nowhere', eat up more and more of the green areas.
The last few years, in particular, saw a spectacular growth in terms of business with the sudden IT boom. There were huge requirements for office premises in this city. This resulted in a burgeoning number of buildings springing up all across the city and even beyond the city limits. Builders and developers have made a fortune. Only if they had cared to see that the outcome would not be a 'concrete jungle'!
